Our holiday letting Julia is located on the top floor of Palazzo Quaroni. The Palazzo Quaroni is situated on the “Via Maqueda” – in the center of the former spanish noble quarter. Also today Via Maqueda is “hip”, not least because it is a wide pedestrian area in the Palermo’s old town. From here you will reach Palermo’s main things to see in just a few minutes. We describe some of them below. This map provides an overview of Palermo and the surroundings of Palazzo Quaroni.
Once a noble quarter of the Sicilian aristocracy, “La Kalsa” today is one of the four old town districts of Palermo. Its narrow streets are home to craft and trade – car repair shops, bicycle shops, knife-grinding shops, all kinds of everyday goods, mom-and-pop stores and, of course, countless bars – not prettified for the eyes of tourists, but embedded in the daily life of Palermo’s inhabitants. Not least because of this, our holiday letting Castrofilippo is ideal for a longer stay – especially in the sunny Sicilian winter.
The market “Il Capo”
The historic market “Il Capo” is really busy – all day long. Because unlike a typical weekly market, Il Capo is rather a huge “Open Air Shopping Mall” in Palermo style. Here you will not only find fresh fruit and vegetables, but (almost) everything for the daily life of Palermo’s inhabitants. Not least because of this, our holiday letting Quaroni is ideal for a longer stay – especially in the sunny Sicilian winter.
The park “Villa Bonanno”
Relaxing under palm trees? In the center of the city? Yes, this is possible in the park “Villa Bonanno”, 15 minutes away from our holiday letting Julia. And just around the corner you will find two main things to see: the Cathedral and the Norman Palace. This is typical for Palermo: Right next to tourist hotspots you will discover things hardly described in any travel guide.
One of the most famous fountains of Palermo is the Fontana Pretoria, also called “Fountain of Shame”. Not least because of this promising name Fontanta Pretoria is very well visited. But we recommend in any case to take a look at the fountain because it is only 5 minutes from our holiday letting Julia. Tip: during the off-season you have the fountain almost for yourself. One more reason to spend the winter in Palermo
One of the most famous buildings of Palermo is the “Teatro Massimo”. It is the largest opera house in Italy and is an attraction for tourists from all over the world. However, it is recommended in any case to take a look at Teatro Massimo because it is almost on the doorstep of our holiday letting Julia.
